Brothers and sisters, I have seen Delight
Friday, 13th August 1999 by Anthony
Runners Delight that
is, a completely original mission-pack by Jesse van Dijk designed
specifically for speed-running. The six high quality maps play fine as a
normal levels too, but offer lots of opportunities to try out cool tricks
and short-cuts. Despite my heavy involvement with QdQ, my own
speed-running skills are non-existent; but the start map from this release
tempted me into performing my first ever ogre-grenade jump, and now I'm in
danger of becoming hooked! And if you're already familiar with the joys of
running, then this set of levels should be even more of a
delightful download.

Q2dQ2 FAQ available
Sunday, 1st August 1999 by Anthony
I've put together a
FAQ about
Quake2
done Quick2. It includes a level-by-level summary of the run with
explanations of all of the tricks and strategies that were used. I hope it
makes for interesting reading.
Q2dQ2 - ZS recam release party
Thursday, 29th July 1999 by Anthony
Eventually, QdQ want to make our
Quake2 done
Quick2 run, or some follow-up, into a proper full production
Quake2 movie. In the mean time, master refilmer Overman of
Zarathustra Studios has honoured us
with an excellent recam of the original run, and we've packaged it up into
an extended version of
Q2dQ2. This will be released at
midnight GMT this week-end, and we're hosting an IRC party to celebrate
the event. Here are the details:
Occasion: Quake2 done Quick2 - Zarathustra Studios
recam release party
Time: Saturday night / Sunday morning, release at
00:00GMT (Saturday 19:00EST), come along a little earlier for a
chat.
Network: 3dnet (e.g. irc.3dnet.net, planetquake.3dnet.net,
telefragged.3dnet.net, etc.)
Channel: #qdq
Hope to
see you there.

We how have a
glibc version

A Linux version of the
Q2dQ2
game mod that implements the menu-based playback is now also
available.
Quake2 run Quick, too
Monday, 5th July 1999 by Anthony
It has been a long time coming, but we're proud today to announce the release
of the first Quake2 speed-run in the Quake done Quick tradition:
Quake2 done
Quick2. These are straight demos from the player-perspective,
not a movie.
Zarathustra Studios
have kindly agreed to apply one of their quality recams to the run, so
look out for that soon. In the the much longer term, we still plan to turn
a Quake2 run into a more fully produced movie. For now, we hope you enjoy
the skills and tricks in this original
21:06 run.
Anniversary, and a new release
Thursday, 10th June 1999 by Stefan & Anthony
Today marks the second anniversary of our first release:
Quake done Quick. Last year, we
celebrated this occasion with
Doom2 done
Quick. To continue tradition, we prepared another surprise for today:
Speed
Completely Beyond Belief is a collection of speed-runs through
the excellent Quake mission pack
Beyond Belief created by Matthias Worch (who subsequently
got hired by Ritual Entertainment and became part of the team that created
SiN). For additional entertainment, we made not only one, but two runs
through this episode: on Easy, and on Nightmare skill, both times getting
all the kills and secrets. Join our birthday party by watching
Speed
Completely Beyond Belief.
If you don't already have the mission-pack, you can download everything together and enjoy
playing Matthias' levels for the first time as well. You're in for a treat,
since Beyond Belief is definitely
one of the best
set of levels ever made for Quake.
Mad dash through Quake2
Wednesday, 9th June 1999 by Anthony [updated 16th June]
Whilst you're waiting for Q2dQ2 you might like to check out this
27:34 run through
Quake2 (27:59 if you include fractions of a second) by Colin of Clan
MG. Despite news you may have read, it isn't a QdQ run; we're just passing
on the link in case people are interested. It differs from our own
forthcoming Q2dQ2 in a few ways,
- it is played on skill 0
- it uses unrestricted bunny-hopping
- it isn't quite a continuous run, because entities in levels
that the player returns to get reset (recording with full continuity
needs extra technology that took QdQ a while to develop)
- it isn't as fast :)
but it is still great to watch, and will give you a taster of some of the
tricks you can expect in our run.
