Quake done Quick

Scourge done Slick begins

Friday, 19th September 1997 by Anthony

The next chapter of QdQ begins today as we start properly on the Scourge done Slick project - this will be a continuous speed-run through the Ritual/Hipnotic mission-pack #1, Scourge of Armagon.

Confusion over host_framerate

Thursday, 18th September 1997 by Anthony

Over on the Shuga Shack, sCary made a pretty positive update about QdQr (thanks!), but it contained one bit that we feel we ought to clarify: "Even though there is some fiddling with host_framerate (demo talk, if you don't know, don't ask) it is mighty impressive to watch."

If you read that the wrong way, you might think we'd used the host_framerate slow-motion cheat to record our demos. Let's be clear about this: though the films are supposed to be entertaining, they are also meant as documents of serious speed-running too. All the demos were recorded entirely honestly, with no cheating whatsoever. This is real people playing 100% real Quake. (Well, apart from the fictional intro sequence, of course. And I still have trouble believing Perkele is only human. :) )

We did use host_framerate as a playback effect at a few points in the demo - once in the intro sequence and later on to help prevent the engine from misreading demo times on slower machines. Here are the technical details. We did ask sCary if he'd clarify at source, but it looks like the request has got overlooked (well, he's a busy guy who never sleeps, right? :) ), so thought it best to set matters straight here.

Oopise-daisy

Sunday, 14th September 1997 by Anthony

Bit of a nightmare earlier when incomplete versions of the movie made their way onto cdrom.com and mirrors when they were picked up from PlanetQuake just after it had disconnected mid-download. Dweomer got things working again like the star he is, and proper versions (with a fix to a continuity bug in END) are back in place now. Apologies if you downloaded anything broken in the meanwhile.

GLQuake problems and patches

Saturday, 13th September 1997 by Anthony

We tested on GLQuake just before fixing the last technical problems in other versions - but of course those fixes introduced a brand new bug in playback on GLQuake. sigh... We think we solved this now by setting gl_playermip 2; lower values don't seem to work, so be warned!

Quake done Quicker released

Saturday, 13th September 1997 by Anthony

Finally, the recording, refilming and production process is over, and QdQ are proud to announce the release of Quake done Quicker. This is a much improved version of the original Quake done Quick run, more than three minutes faster and featuring some very cool new tricks and camerawork. Go get it from the downloads page.
