Quake done Quick

'Twas the Lite before Christmas

Thursday, 24th December 1998 by Anthony

This time last year saw us release Quake done 100% Quick. Why break with tradition? The new first-person run Qd100Qlite is QdQ's festive offering for this year. It's a run on skill 0, uncovering every official secret and killing every monster in the game, completing it in 42:25, more than thirty minutes faster than last year's Nightmare run. Get it here.

SdSlite, and other SdS fun

Monday, 7th December 1998 by Anthony

e're proud to present a few new add-ons for Scourge done Slick. If you haven't seen this most spectacular of our movies yet, what are you waiting for? The rest of you now have the chance to add some new cool stuff your existing movie. There's a whole new SdSlite run that beats the game on Skill 0 in an incredible 500 seconds! It's the best running I've ever seen. There's also a patch available that tweaks a few things in the movie that we noticed post-release, and a new alternative set of marine vocals. More details are available on the download page.

Use the source! Look!

Yes, almost exactly a year after the orignal release of Quake2, we now have a version with stable physics and source for the same. This means we can finally start proper work on the Quake2 done Quick2 project. Given the size of the game, it could still be a while before we have a full run recorded, and turning it into a movie will be another large project - but you can be assured it's the number one priority for most of the team.

Improvements

The Improvements page has been updated and slightly restructured, i.e. a news section has been added. Give it a look if you're interested in the current fastest times of all our runs.

SiN

Forgive us father, for we have sinned, it has indeed been almost two months since this page was updated... That's not really what this update is about though. The good news is that SiN went gold around a week ago and should be hitting a store near you soon enough. Maybe we will do something with this, who knows, the physics might be more stable than Q2's, but I doubt it because I'm a pessimist at the best of times. Keep your eye on Ritualistic for updates on SiN and stuff.

SdSLite

There's always some good news on the horizon, and following on from the success of "Scourge Done Slick", we shall soon be releasing a run of the Ritual mission pack done on skill 0. There are no current plans to do a movie version for this, but it will definitely be worth seeing because we have some storming new tricks in store for you in this release. This project is in the final phases of completion now, all that's left is for me to get off my lazy ass and compile the demos into the actual run. Expect a release soon, no really, we mean it this time! :)

Q2 Progress

Wednesday, 4th November 1998 by Chris

A lot of our fans have been writing in asking to know why we haven't done anything with Quake2 yet, so I thought I would clarify our current position on this. As far as our progress goes on "Quake2 Done Quick Too", unfortunately there hasn't been a lot of progress. This is not through our lack of effort, but unfortunately Quake2 has become the victim of continuous patch updates, as I'm sure your all aware. What this basically means is that we can not compile any of our tools to take advantage of the new and improved physics changes in the new releases, until we get an updated version of the DLL source code. Zoid has assured Nolan that it is indeed coming soon, lets hope so. We are still playing around with various routes and stuff, so there is some progress. As soon as the source is out, you can rest assured that we will be hitting Q2 running like a bull in a china shop, er, or something. :)

QdQstats v1.5

Wednesday, 4th November 1998 by Chris

In light of the continued interest in Mad Coops [TM], see Sda, Nolan has done some digging and hacking in the Quake source and has released a new version of the QdQstats program that we use to record all our runs. This new version features numerous enhancements in terms of reducing lag if you want to do some cooperative speed running over the internet. It really is a lot of fun, and I would recommend it to anyone. As well as reducing lag, hacka Nolan has added some really cool new stuff to this release, such as ogre grenade timers and improvements to the way the current grenade timer works. Cruise over to the QdQStats page and check out the revision history to see exactly what is new and improved.

Qd100QLite

Quake Done 100% Quick Lite, the project conceived shortly after the release of our original QdQ100 run is almost ready for release. We had some issues to resolve with this, but it's now firmly looking like it will be finished very soon. This is going to impress everyone, and contributions from many including Justin Fleck, Ilkka Kurkela, Peter Horvath, Will Marsh, and several others (I even did a level, shock horror) have assured that this is going to be one outstanding run! Rock!

Public Opinion

Wednesday, 4th November 1998 by Chris

There has been a great deal of discussion on our mailing lists regarding bunnyhops, and whether we should use them or not in our forthcoming Quake2 runs. We (well I) am curious to see what the audience has to say about this, so i would like to give you the opportunity to vote on the matter. I can't assure you that we will go with whatever outcome the poll produces, but it will give us a good idea of what the general public thinks. If your unsure on what bunny hopping is, you probably haven't seen the Rabbit Run. I would definitely recommend having a look at that if you need to see exactly what bunny hopping is all about.
Should we hop, or should we stop?
Hop all you want, those hops are what I look forward to in a run, make the fastest possible demos you can!
Only hop if it's necessary for you to pull off a cool trick that's gonna save you a load of time.
Those hops suck, please dont do them in your future runs!

Ok, I'm done now, see you in another 2 months :)
