I wouldn't call myself a gamer.

Quake-related Information
Your nickname (story behind it)?
Mandel
It was a random pick. No reason. It means almond.
Originally the name was Mandelmassa, which means marzipan, but that was too long.

Your Quake config (key bindings, etc.)?
wasd for moving, always run on,
mouse2 for jumping
mouse3 for a quick rocket, space for a quick grenade,
and lots of keys around the wasd to configure a main weapon for mouse1.

Size of Quake directory on your HD?
I have a Quake partition, to be honest... 14.5 GB used there. That excludes AVIs.

Your computer (processor/videocard etc.)?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual core, 4 GB RAM, GeForce 8300 (embedded...).
Running Windows XP 32 bit. I have a 20" widescreen LCD monitor.

Quake settings (resolution, version etc.)?
JoeQuake GL, build 1329. I used WinQuake for the longest time but finally couldn't resist the fanciness of GL. 800x600, fov 120, fullbright when needed. Vsync is on, and I managed to get my monitor to do 72 Hz at that resolution.

First contact to speedrunning (when, how etc.)?
A neighbour told me that he had seen some mad guy play through Quake on the worst difficulty in only 12 minutes. He was referring to QdQwav. I downloaded an AVI of it and didn't know what to expect, because I hadn't played quake myself for many years. I couldn't believe my eyes when the player jumped from the starting point on E1M1... This was late 2002.

First speedrunning demo?
First one to enter the tables was an easy run of dmc1m1.
I found a slopejump and beat the current record by 3 seconds.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from yourself
(the one(s) that you're most proud of)?
My id demos of course, and in that collection, end_017 NR is most special for me.
I do enjoy some of my custom runs as well, for example, coag_012 NR, pb2_019 NR, tr4_014 NR, wish_016 NR.
From my personal collection I'm proud to be the second runner to ever get 21 on e1m1.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from others?
Favorite player (overall/runs/100%/marathon/coop)?
Too many to name. There are so many runners with great qualities. But I suppose the qualities I enjoy the most are smoothness and persistance (when it shows).

Favorite trick in a demo?
There are so many cool tricks... That's why I love this game.

Favorite QdQ release?
Quake done 100% Quick lite 2. I was involved in the production of it, and I think it came together really nicely.

Favorite original Quake map?
Most of the id maps are my favourites.

Favorite custom map?
I like watching demos on huge maps, so I'd say maps like menkalinan, ac, nastrond, gmsp3. But personally I prefer running significantly shorter maps.

Most annoying monster/map?
Spawns are hard to hit once they get going. My nemesis is still the shambler on the bridge on e2m4, though.

Do you like Doom/Quake2/Q3A?
Nope. Remember, I'm not a gamer...

What do you think of Quake now?
It's the only game I spend any significant amount of time on. I love it. It just keeps growing, with new mappers and runners.

Quake Purity Test score?
link
80.9% quake pure (19.1% quake corrupt).
