The great people over at the Quake Mapping discord have just released 'Quake From Memory', a fun remake of all 32 Quake maps made without playing or looking at the original.

We thought this would be the perfect opportunity to try a new type of contest, namely an 'open' Quake-Done-Quick-style project.

Here's how it works.

• For the first contest, we run the first map of all four episodes, that is e1m1, e2m1, e3m1 and e4m1.
• The fastest demos are collected, and we take the stats (health, weapons, ammo, armour) from those runs to create a starting .CFG file for the next level in each episode.
• For the next contest we then run e1m2, e2m2, e3m2, e4m2 using the stats from the previous winners' demos. And so on for the following contests.

• 1st: 15 points
• 2nd: 12 points
• 3rd: 9 points
• 4th: 7 points
• 5th: 6 points
• 6th: 5 points
• 7th: 4 points
• 8th: 3 points
• 9th: 2 points
• Participation: 1 point

Start Running!

1. The first round (e1m1, e2m1, e3m1, e4m1) starts NOW 28th August, 2025 and the deadline for demo submissions is 6th September, 2025. No custom .CFG file is necessary for these first maps, just play with the default starting stats!

2. Name your demo(s) and the accompanying text file(s) like this:

e1m1_playername_time.dem / .txt
e2m1_playername_time.dem / .txt
e3m1_playername_time.dem / .txt
e4m1_playername_time.dem / .txt

3. Send your demos privately to @sphere0218 in discord.

Your demos will not be viewed or available to any other player or SDA member until the contest closes.

A few extra rules/details:

• The project is Easy Run category, so please use 'skill 0'.
• After you completed a level, please wait 5 seconds or a bit more on 'intermission screen'. And if you completed final level (e1m7, e2m6, e3m6, e4m7, end) you need to wait 30 or more seconds on 'congratulations screen'.
• Segmented runs can be very complicated planning routes across multiple levels. We may make some map-specific rules once we take a look at the maps (e.g. 'you must collect the grenade launcher and the red armour'). But in general we want to keep it simple: Fastest time wins, and we work with what we have for the next level.
• Points are awarded for the fastest time (including decimals). HOWEVER, we do reserve the right to use a different demo than the winner's, IF the times match (to the second) BUT there is a big difference in stats.
• Just as an example:
  P1 finishes with a time of 20.5 with 50 health, 0 armour, and no extra weapons. P2 finishes with a time of 20.9 with full health, 200 armour and a rocket launcher.

  In this case we MIGHT decide to use P2's demo, however P1 still receives the 7 points.

• We don't want to make things too complicated, we just want to make the contest as much fun as possible for each map :)

• IMPORTANT NOTE: These maps will only run with version v0.17.0 (or later) of JoeQuake that allows for BSP2/2PSB map support, so make sure you download it if you haven't already by clicking here
