QUAKE DONE BONKED INTRODUCTION: Quake done Bonked is a single-player speedrun through all of Quake on the easy skill, using the 'bonkjam' mod. This mod equips the player with a unique new weapon, combined with versatile movement mechanics, allowing us to blast through Quake faster than ever before. Both the Dash & Smash mechanics have two charge states, each increasing the damage, knockback and speed given when releasing, displayed by a power bar on-screen and accompanied by sounds. Before beginning this project, we made a decision to avoid using weapons throughout this playthrough, as the inclusion of weapons would make the hammer more and more irrelevant as we acquire better weapons, and would follow more along the footsteps of previous projects. While this does mean missing out on some cool double-boosts with the hammer, it balances out on inventing clever ways of completing levels that hasn't been done before. More details about this mod can be found in Connor's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJbBc2ueAVU INSTALLATION: Unzip bonked.zip and place the pak2.pak into your pre-installed version of the 'bonkjam' mod. Launch the mod by either using `-game bonkjam` in shortcut properties, or through the in-game mod menu if available. If the mod has been installed correctly, you should be greeted by the demo-playback menu upon launching. For reverting to the bonkjam's default mod, simply rename or remove pak2.pak in the folder. Due to bonkjam having it's own start map, the original start map can no longer be accessed, so we made sure to package it for the start demos to load properly. WATCHING THE MOVIE: From the main screen, pressing enter will play the run from start to finish, in it's entirety. You can also select from a single episode or solo level from each episode's sub-menu. You can use the following keys during playback: F1 / slow-motion F2 / normal speed F3 / fast forward F5 / rewind (JoeQuake only) F9 / skips to next demo F10 / return to menu F12 / quit These videos are also available on YouTube: TBD - Main Video by Khristov TBD - Trailer by Khristov Coming Soon - Commentary by Quake Speedruns Explained HOW THE RUN WAS RECORDED: Each level was recorded individually in a single segment, using an experimental version of JoeQuake, which allowed directly modifying a client's starting stats with special configs, to completely remove the starting shotgun and spawn with hammer in hand, to avoid having to switch to it manually. All demos were later ran through a script for health & armor to carry over into next levels, and pickups manually adjusted in post. TIMING: As tradition with Quake SDA, the full-time is calculated by rounding down each level, excluding intermission times and start maps.
