I had this idea ages ago, but Ilkka was too lazy to make it a contest at Mineral's. So now I can finally post it somewhere and hope someone hosts this (yup this is one of the things I wanted an SDA forum for). Hell you could even post your own demos and mention them in this thread.

Look at this:

Then read this: The contest is designed to be an ongoing contest with continual improvements, like the E2M1_007 thingy. There's kinda two versions: A and B. For each of them, you start in a doorway in the Episode choosing room of the Start map. From the starting doorway, go around into each of the other doorways, and get around as far as you can. For A, start in E3 and get to E4 then E1 etc. For B, start in E2 and get to E1 then E4 etc.

The catch: You're not allowed to touch the floor at all. So get jumping around torch holes and wall fittings.

so you'll be hopping around.. when will it stop ?? =]

You're a sick dude Shambler..

not touching the floor, sounds a bit dull, it was fun when i was about 8 and tried moving around the house though, in quake i think to make sure no one touches the floor that the floor be removed and a void put there, like in HIPDM1 so if you touch where the floor is you know all about it

I gotta say Shambers, I agree with Min, it's a nice idea, but how do you start, how do you time and how do you finish. If it's a contest it has to be done within verifiable rules.

If you can come up with some answers it might be good for a chuckle or two.

Holy ****, are you people incredibly fucking stupid or what??

Start in either the E2 or the E3 doorway - obviously on the stairs as I've told you you're not supposed to touch the fucking ground.

Jump around the alcoves and fittings and whatever and see how far you can get. As I said it's an ongoing contest like the E2M1_007 contest, so like one person will make it to one doorway, then someone will beat that by making it to the next torch alcove or whatever. No time or anything, just see how far you can get.

Jesus fucking christ...

Am I right in saying that you cant get directly from ep4 to ep1 and the other way around? Or are you not talking about circulation here, Shambler?

Circulate.

This is in no way similar to the e2m1_007 open challenge Ilkka ran all the time ago. That was a speed running contest with a start point and end point, this is a "show how many difficult but obvious curly jumps you can be bothered to do before you become terminally bored and start vomitting blood" contest with no speed element or structure.

It may have helped matters if you hadn't started by comparing it to something almost totally dissimilar.

So try and promote a little harmony in the world, Shambers. Calling everyone fucking stupid just because your explanation sucked a ten foot dogs **** is not the best way to promote brotherhood amongst your fellow man.

;-)

Morfans: don't blame me if you're so mindbogglingly retarded you can't even understand a simple and obvious explanation. English is your first language, right?? So you have no excuse...

And yes, it IS like the E2M1 contest, in that it is an ongoing contest (like E2M1 was), with continually updated entries (like E2M1 was), with no overall time limit (like E2M1 was).

Nagasaki: As I say, you need to jump around wall fittings and stuff - just looking at the diagram the route from E2 to E1 should be pretty obvious...

Oh and furthermore, in case any ex-lobotomy patients, pre-teens, or neanderthals are still having trouble grasping the concept of this contest idea:

It's a trick move contest, not a speedrunning contest. It's designed to test players ability to pull off increasing numbers of trick jumps consecutively, rather than purely their speedrunning skills.

/sighs...

P.S., yes the above posts are written to promote harmony and friendly communication within the speedrunning scene.

So it would probably fir ill mind moves more, right? I might consider running it there, but it would not receive enough feedback I assume.

Further, I think you CAN'T do a perfect circulation at all, with the jump from ep1 gate to ep4 gate obviously beeing impossible (how tha hell do you want to jump between the windows net to the teleporter?? if you can, show me!)
