Ladies and gentlemen Boys and Girls Runners, viewers, lurkers and people who have wandered into the channel by mistake. Speed Demos Archive is proud to present... Its Fourth Annual Speedrunning Awards. The Nolans 2004! Our hosts for tonight are... Stubby Yo! mwh Indeed and Mandel Ey * Morfy takes a seat in the audience Thank you. Now, in the previous three years we've had a huge variety of special guest stars to present the awards. But we've got fed up of that. So this year we're going to play it straight. With one exception. That's right. Stubby bitched and whined that he wanted to be Clint Eastwood. And even threatened that he wouldn't turn up if we didn't let him. And so... * Stubgaard is now known as [SDA]Clint <[SDA]Clint> Heh. I'm so old. Yes. Well. 2004 saw some incredible demos, and, consequently, an incredible amount of votes. But enough with the chitchat, let's get rolling with the awards already <[SDA]Clint> First award for today is the Custom Level Nightmare 100%! The nominees were: crit_052 by Daniel Magnusson, cb2_031 by Daniel Hansson, arc_215 by Carl Tholin, carn_148 by Thomas Bergendorff and ball_048 by Richard Skidmore And the winner is... <[SDA]Clint> *dumroll* <[SDA]Clint> arc_215 by Carl Tholin * Radix37 sets mode: +v Carl| Possibly the smoothest run of the century! Congratulations, Carl. * Mandel slaps Carl| around a bit with a large trout wow, thanks. I guess I just have myself to thank for this one :) and all you others for keeping things alive! * Morfy (~Morfy@starship.python.net) has left #nolans (well done Carl. I love you...) * Radix37 sets mode: -v Carl| * vv (~vv@81.175.132.0) has joined #nolans thanks Carl We move on to the best Episode Nightmare 100%. The nominees were: r1m6_323 by Richard Skidmore, czg7a_503 by Daniel Hansson, dmc5_103 by Connor Fitzgerald, dmc7_045 by Connor Fitzgerald and pse1_240 by Richard Skidmore <[SDA]Clint> A close category, but thanks to all the lazy bastards who don't appreciate multi-minute shotgunnery, the winner is... dmc7_045 by Connor Fitzgerald * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor Congratulations Connor hey, thanks guys :) glad you liked it... was fun to beat stubby hehe ok thanks Connor * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor This brings us to the last Nightmare 100% category, namely the ID Nightmare 100%. The nominees were: <[SDA]Clint> e1m4_209 by Thomas Stubgaard, e1m6_052 by Connor Fitzgerald, e1m8_113 by Connor Fitzgerald, e3m3_159 by Thomas Stubgaard and e4m6_218 by Thomas Stubgaard Apparently, beating one of Peter Horvath's most memorable records doesn't quite cut it. This might be the only category where the winner will be heard to say "what the fuck!? I don't deserve this!". Because the winner is... e4m6_218 by Thomas Stubgaard And of course he deserves it. * [SDA]Clint is now known as Stubgaard yay! ehm i guess it all comes down to e4m6 having a totally new route and shit, connor just "stole" peter's route for e1m6 :) * Stubgaard is now known as [SDA]Clint That's the Nightmare 100% categories finished, so we'll move on to the Nightmare Runs. Let's start by examining the funk on the Custom Levels. The nominees were: * Retrieving #nolans modes... <[SDA]Clint> ac_256 by Weixing Ye, cb2_020 by Daniel Hansson, well_045 by Mathias Thore, kj1_055 by Robert Axelsson and s57p_015 by Connor Fitzgerald * mwh changes topic to 'The Nolans Channel -- join #qdq too for discussion/bitching' All great examples of the art, but when a demo contains the equal second biggest single ogre grenade jump ever recorded it it probably in with a good chance of winning. And that's just what happened here, with the winner being... <[SDA]Clint> s57p_015 by Connor Fitzgerald Weeee * mwh sets mode: +v connor <[SDA]Clint> speak up young lad oh wow.... i didn't expect this one... i voted for robert's demo! but thanks heaps... cool to win againsts lots of demos i like :D * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor thanks Connor Moving on directly, we come to the Episode Nightmare Runs. The nominees were: h3m1_045 by Connor Fitzgerald, r1m4_055 by Michael Hudson, pg2_154 by Robert Axelsson, dmc7_025 by Robert Axelsson and m8b_019 by Mathias Thore Some people might say that the winning demo was a blasphemous travesty because the spike mine jump is one of the most impressive tricks in Quake history. <[SDA]Clint> But they can all shut up. Because h3m1_045 by Connor Fitzgerald is the winner! Well done Connor. Please come up again and honour us with a few words. * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor haha yikes! i'm VERY sorry about the spike mine jump :) i thought i might get no votes becasue of that tooo but thanks alot anyway :) "a lot" * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor * [SDA]Clint giggles <[SDA]Clint> Surely, some of the best demos SDA has ever seen competed in this next category, the ID Nightmare Run. You only have to look at some of the demos that *weren't* nominated: <[SDA]Clint> e1m2_031 by Jozsef e3m6_027 by Connor e4m6_044 also by Connor and still more (mostly by Connor) <[SDA]Clint> But on with the show! The nominees were e1m1_024 by Kay Berntsen, e2m2_034 by Peter Horvath, e4m5_009 by Jozsef Szalontai, e4m7_048 by Connor Fitzgerald and end_017 by Mathias Thore But no matter how good the others were, from the moment this demo was sent in everyone knew it would be a winner... e2m2_034 by Peter Horvath <[SDA]Clint> Peter continues to pull hard trick upon hard trick, year after year. Even if he only makes one demo every year for the next ten years, it seems certain that they will earn him ten nolans. Congratulations Peter! unfortunately peter is too busy practicing his latest insane trick to be with us tonight well ok <[SDA]Clint> Now, that's it for Nightmare. Up next are the Easy 100% demos. We start with the Custom Level Easy 100%. The nominated demos were: flk1_214 by Marlo Galinski, fmb1_459 by Richard Skidmore, grdh_048 by Carl Tholin, fcas_031 by Connor Fitzgerald and pris_047 by Kay Berntsen Only one vote separated the winner from the first runner-up this time. <[SDA]Clint> 1 vote or 1000 votes, it makes no difference to the result. The winner is... grdh_048 by Carl Tholin * tangent (tangent@cm203.theta20.maxonline.com.sg) Quit (Ping timeout) Congratulations to your second award Carl! * Radix37 sets mode: +v Carl| I was of course going to thank the people who voted for me last time, as well. But I´m a slow typer, so thank you guys! lol, sorry and thanks for this one too :) * Radix37 sets mode: -v Carl| The next step up from custom levels is, as you all know by now, the episodes. Nominated demos in the Episode Easy 100% category were: <[SDA]Clint> h1m3_120 by Dane Plachetta, h3m1_121 by Connor Fitzgerald, dmc1_020 by Thomas Bergendorff, dmc4_052 by Connor Fitzgerald and dmc5_047 by Thomas Bergendorff And the winner is... h1m3_120 by Dane Plachetta We need to rename this category "The Plachetta Award" :) * tangent (tangent@cm32.delta178.maxonline.com.sg) has joined #nolans Now Dane-P is Aussie, like Connor but a bit less mental, and so is presumably asleep let's hope that he produces some more fantastic Hipnotic EHs in 2005 thanks mwh-P To surprise you folks a little, we will carry on in exactly the same pattern as previously with the ID Easy 100%! That's a surprise? yeah... well, I just said that to f00l the audience into thinking that we'd put some thought into this drivel. :-) <[SDA]Clint> Anyway, the nominees were: e1m6_046 by Connor Fitzgerald, e2m6_301 by Connor Fitzgerald, e3m3_050 by Thomas Stubgaard, e4m1_051 by Jozsef Szalontai and e4m7_155 by Timo Nieminen Quite an array of sweet sweet demos. No other category was as close as this one. In fact, there wasn't a single demo amongst the nominees that couldn't have won. But, it wasn't close enough to make it a draw... The single winner is... <[SDA]Clint> e2m6_301 by Connor Fitzgerald * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor Is there a limit to how many Nolans a single player can win in a year? Well, seems like maybe there isn't. Congratulations Connor! aaah thanks "a lot" again guys :) i worked pretty hard on that demo, e2m6_308 was one of my favourites * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor * [SDA]Clint loved that demo too :) <[SDA]Clint> Moving along. Next stop, the Easy Runs. Our first port of call in this highly competitive area will be the Custom Levels. The nominated demos were mrt_028 by Carl Tholin, hos_103 by Connor Fitzgerald, feb_022 by Daniel Hansson, cb1_025 by Kay Berntsen and dnes_041 by Thomas Bergendorff And the winner? We call him "The Owner", and he's owned the custom level awards big time (almost). It's... <[SDA]Clint> mrt_028 by Carl Tholin * Radix37 sets mode: +v Carl| The man has the smoothness and experience of a 50 year old whore. Congratulations Carl! haha, thanks mwh I did not expect this one! so thank you all again very much * Radix37 sets mode: -v Carl| If I'm not mistaken that means that the Episode Easy Runs are next! The nominations were: <[SDA]Clint> h3m1_042 by Connor Fitzgerald, czg4_040 by Connor Fitzgerald, ik3_015 by Kay Berntsen, rd4_027 by Connor Fitzgerald and dmc5_022 by Thomas Bergendorff No spike mines, but anyone who can out rocket-ballet Peter deserves to win... Stretch my scrote! It's h3m1_042 by Connor Fitzgerald If you've done it on nightmare, why not try the same on easy! Another awesome demo gives Connor yet another nolan. Congratulations Connor! * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor * Archi- (PoIaris@dsl-tregw3fb4.dial.inet.fi) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) hehe thanks again guys! this was one of the first demos i tried on my good computer and it took ages to beat peters... like... 8 year old record?? peter is a freak :0 * [SDA]Clint nods his head * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor <[SDA]Clint> Finally, it's time for the last one of the standard categories, and we've saved some of the best 'til last. For the ID Easy Run, the nominations were: e1m8_028 by Connor Fitzgerald, e3m3_023 by Connor Fitzgerald, e4m5_053 by Kay Berntsen, e4m6_040 by Connor Fitzgerald and e4m7_043 by Kay Berntsen Quite the Connor vs. Kay category. But the winner of the Norway versus Australia title fight turned out to be... <[SDA]Clint> e4m6_040 by Connor Fitzgerald You better believe it. A bunch of incredible demos. But e4m6 was in front from the beginning. Congratulations Connor! * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor eeek thanks so much! man... kays bunnies on e4m7 deserve to win this * connor hands trophy to kay * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor pfft anyway Let jubilation reign! We've now finished the regular SP awards. Must be time for Marathons and Coops. Let's start with ID Coops. The nominations were: e1m1_040 NH2 by Daniel Hansson & Jonny Andersson, e1m3_034 EH3 by Daniel Hansson, Jonny Andersson & Daniel Andersson, e1m8_034 EH2 by Daniel Hansson & Jonny Andersson, e3m5_035 NR2 by Mathias Thore & Robert Maglic and end_134 NH2 by Thomas Stubgaard & Mathias Thore * _BahdKo_ (bahdko@cs181110240.pp.htv.fi) has joined #nolans <[SDA]Clint> And the winner is... e1m1_040 NH2 by Daniel Hansson & Jonny Andersson The boys snagged this record in 2001 with a 0:45, and have continued to improve it ever since. Congratulations Daniel and Jonny. * Radix37 sets mode: +vv Cyborg666 P-B^ Check you mail tomorrow :) thanks alot guys! i did infact expect this jk Well, thanks! * Radix37 sets mode: -vv Cyborg666 P-B^ <[SDA]Clint> ok then <[SDA]Clint> Coop 100%! This includes custom levels as well as episode maps. The nominees are: blkf_031 NH2 by Mattias Öman & Christian Tornberg, sha_1022 NH4 by Pif de Mestre, Luc de Mestre, Andre de Mestre, Georges de Mestre, grdh_034 EH2 by Daniel Hansson & Carl Tholin, ev1_113 NH2 by Evan Wagner & Justin Fleck and rd2_035 EH3 by Daniel Hansson, Jonny Andersson & Daniel Andersson And the winner is the truly astonishing... <[SDA]Clint> my personal favorite! <[SDA]Clint> sha_1022 NH4 by The Clan de Mestre A very unique demo and a well deserved win for French Axemen. * Radix37 sets mode: +v Mestre-Pif I never imagin i could get this Nolan my brothers will be really proud * Archi- (PoIaris@dsl-tregw3fb4.dial.inet.fi) has joined #nolans * Radix37 sets mode: -v Mestre-Pif <[SDA]Clint> Coop Runs. The nominations were: rpg1_027 ER2 by Daniel Hansson & Jonny Andersson, arun_006 NR2 by Robert Axelsson & Rickard Axelsson, tl_010 NR2 by Mathias Thore & Robert Maglic, ball_012 NR2 by Robert Axelsson & Rickard Axelsson and pg3_022 ER2 by Justin Fleck & Evan Wagner This was an unbelieveably close category with only THREE votes seperating the winner from last place. Not only that but there was no outright winner with two demos getting the same number of votes. So have a tie! The joint winners being... <[SDA]Clint> arun_006 NR2 by Robert Axelsson & Rickard Axelsson and pg3_022 ER2 by Justin Fleck & Evan Wagner Awesome Swedish rocket boostery can only be equalled by pingy American nails and box magic. Congratulations Rickard and Robert, and Justin and Evan. Unfortunately, two of the winners can't be here tonight The other two have fallen off the face of the earth You'll have to guess which are which :) The nice thing to do at this point would be to call a five minute break so everyone could go for a slash or a smoke and grab another drink. <[SDA]Clint> ... <[SDA]Clint> And that's why we're pressing on with the award for Best Marathon. Some sweet marathons were made in 2004, but of course the ID marathons are bound to draw the most attention. This is explains why the nominations are: <[SDA]Clint> ee1_212 ER2 by Daniel Hansson & Carl Tholin, ne1_1131 NH by Daniel Magnusson, ee4_1306 EH by Timo Nieminen, ne2_1716 NH by Thomas Stubgaard and erde_518 ER by Carl Tholin Quite a collection. Once again no clear winner emerged with two demos attracting the same number of votes. So the winners are... ee1_212 ER2 by Daniel Hansson & Carl Tholin and ee4_1306 EH by Timo Nieminen * Radix37 sets mode: +vvv Cyborg666 Carl| timooo Oh my god did we work hard for this marathon thanks again! we spent alot of time on that demo thanks all! yes, thanks. I guess it was worth it now :) and im not religious or anything but: Pope, respect! "a lot" :) * Radix37 sets mode: -vvv Cyborg666 Carl| timooo That concludes the demo awards for this year. Which means we'd like to present a few player awards before you all go back to your dreary lives for another year. <[SDA]Clint> It's amazing to be able to say that we still get enough new players every year to be able to present a Rookie Of The Year award. This last year saw some great new talent. The nominations were... <[SDA]Clint> George "Sidd" Dickesson, Mathias "Mandel" Thore, Robert "Midas" Maglic, Joe "BogoJoker" Pecoraro and Christian "Christian Tornberg" Tornberg And the winner by a HUUUUUGGEEE margin is... Mathias "Hey! I won!" Thore! yay, that's me thanks a lot everybody it's a big thing for me to win a nolan =) well, I hope I can win some more next year! hehe <[SDA]Clint> congratz <[SDA]Clint> Next comes the Most Improved Player Of The Year The nominations were... Connor Fitzgerald, Pif de Mestre, Kay Berntsen, Mathias Thore and Richard Skidmore <[SDA]Clint> And the winner is... The already excellent but now utterly incredible Connor Fitzgerald! * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor thanks again guys! one thing made a big difference: getting a new computer! oh, and playing all the time... :D * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor *cough* mac *cough* thanks Connor In most people's opinion, the Player Of The Year award is the single piece of gold that most people would want to pick up. <[SDA]Clint> The field is, as always, very strong indeed. The nominations were... Kay Berntsen, Carl Tholin, Thomas Stubgaard, Connor Fitzgerald and Thomas Bergendorff And the winner is... ...as if you couldn't guess... ... collecting his EIGTH award of the night ... <[SDA]Clint> that aussie twat Connor Fitzgerald!! * Radix37 sets mode: +v connor * Spirit_of_85 (~Spirit_of@d053158.adsl.hansenet.de) has joined #nolans wow it's so cool to know that you guys are watching/enjoying my runs... this categoriy is a real honor to win thanks heaps :) and thanks to the other runners * Prooof (~na@82.138.9.2) Quit (Read error: EOF from client) and site-organisers ! * [SDA]Clint cheers * Radix37 sets mode: -v connor congratulations connor <[SDA]Clint> Quake/SDA/QdQ Event of the Year The nominations were... 209 demos in August, Opening the Other Games section, Mandel joining SDA, AVI galore at QdQ and Justin submitting demo no. 1000 And the winner is... <[SDA]Clint> Opening the floodgates to allow demos from other, inferior games to be posted on SDA. err... what? how can something non-quake win a quake award!? it doesn't make sense! i voted for august... even though i didn't do any demos :-p You'd have to ask the silly voters, I guess... Democracy is overrated A rather strange category that we were never quite sure why we included but still do so out of habit is Fool of the Year The fools nominated were... <[SDA]Clint> Mattias Öman, Evan Wagner, Tim Doherty, George Dickesson and Arnold Schwarzenegger And the biggest f00l of them all is... Rather suprisingly since he has nothing to do with SDA whatsoever... <[SDA]Clint> Arnold Schwarzenegger - for concentrating on his political career rather than trying to wring more money out of the Terminator brand. Unsuprisingly, Arnold could not be here tonight. So we're just going to have to move right along to the finale of the show. <[SDA]Clint> Every year we single out a single person to be elevated to the Speedrunning Hall Of Fame. A person that you think should be recognised for their outstanding achievements over the years. This year the honour goes to a man who started running in 1998 and has kept amazing us ever since. <[SDA]Clint> He has become legendary for his "impossible" demos, such as e4m2_117 and e1m3_100. Ladies and Gentlemen, We are proud to bow down and worship before "The Devil Himself" <[SDA]Clint> Peter Horvath! what can you say? * Matt1 (~Matt@82-32-13-69.cable.ubr02.azte.blueyonder.co.uk) Quit (Read error: Connection reset by peer) e3m3_028 about sums it up six and a half years old and still unbeatable DivX .avi versions of most winning demos are available at http://www.archive.org/movies/details-db.php?id=15234 Thanks to Mandel for doing the work! But that's not all QdQ has an important announcement to make a new release! * [SDA]Clint is now known as Stubgaard i'm back! It's with great pride QdQ gives you the Rabbit Run, in a gorgeous PAK version! * Stubgaard giggles go check out QdQ WOOT that's all folks! go check out tRR and then tell us how much you liked the award show bitching is allowed congratulations to all who have won a virtual copy of my (fake) smiling face! * Stubgaard spawnsboosts off the stage!!!
