Quake-related Information

Your nickname (story behind it)?
I used to play Q2 DM using the Shambler player model (because, like, Shambler are f00king 1337), with the name Mr Shambler. Eventually I gave up DM, started TEAMShambler sites, and change the name to just "Shambler". Some day SDA will realise it's no longer "Mr Shambler"...

Your Quake config (key bindings, etc.)?
Mouse inverted
Forward - Left Mouse button
Backward - Right Mouse button
Strafe Left - ,
Strafe Right - /
Jump/Up - Spacebar
Crouch/Down - .
Primary Fire - Right CTRL
Secondary Fire - Right Shift
Change Weapon - Middle Mouse button
Walk/Run - #
Use - Enter

It's worth noting that I only learnt to strafe in August 2000, and all my speedruns were done without strafing.

Size of Quake directory on your HD?
1.07 gig - loads and loads of custom maps.

Your computer (processor/videocard etc.)?
P3 600 / 256 meg ram / Voodoo3 3000

Quake settings (resolution, version etc.)?
GLQuake v1.09, idgamma patch, 1024 x 768 - no way I'm sacrificing looks for speed.

First contact to speedrunning (when, how etc.)?
Seeing 1949....very impressive. When I heard it had been done in 1635 (before I got hold of the demos) I was even more impressed, wondering how the hell they got it quicker. Speedrunning and tricks are just the coolest thing about exploring a game's possibilitie

First speedrunning demo?
Elek_022 - an obvious shortcut on a then unrun map (it's now 0:12 or something =)). I actually got a modem and got online because I wanted to share the speedruns I'd done on new maps...

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of)?
Trr_026 with double grenade jump off monster + accidental vertical Fiend boost. Firstly because there'd been a lot of competition on this map including my own demos earlier on, secondly because it was a cool trick and the Fiend bit was random and funny, and thirdly because it CANED OPTIC'S P.O.S. DEMO BY 21 SECONDS.
Poly_009 with Enforcer blast jump. The first time I'd done a trick that cool and it was really exciting when I finally made it.

Lots of the Q2 and Unreal runs have been exciting too, finding lots of cool new tricks, favourites are:
Fstk_024 with double handgrenade jump off a monster. Obvious shortcut, extremely hard and the only double handgrenade jump ever recorded(?).
Any Unreal run with combo tricks - Krall staff jump + ASMD boost, grenade + ASMD jump + ASMD boosts, that sort of thing.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from others?
E1M4_019 by Mineral for the very 1337 double Fiend slope jump trick.

Favorite player (overall/runs/100%/marathon/coop)?
Mineral because he's a nice guy and makes good music.
Markus for all his 1337ness in QdQwav.
Least favourite is Optic for obvious reasons.

Favorite trick in a demo?
The very 1337 double Fiend slope jump trick in E1M4_019 by Mineral.

Favorite QdQ release?
Whatever's the latest and fastest, so currently QdQWav - I was hugely impressed with all the new tricks they found!!

Favorite original Quake map?
Lots of them. Episode1 is all cool, Episode2 has some great medieval stuff, Episode3 has a classy gothic style. Ummmm... E1M5, E2M4 and E3M4.

Favorite custom map?
Far too many to mention!! There's so many great Q1 SP maps I can't pick just one or even just a few.

Most annoying monster/map?
All the really shit custom maps and monsters, the authors should have their fingers broken for releasing that crap.

Do you like Doom/Quake2/Q3A?
Doom I only played on a friend's PC ages ago, but it was cool at the time.
Quake2 was great, I played just Q1 and Q2 for a whole year....hasn't got the same longetivity as Quake though. It's a pity running hasn't taken off with this as there's a lot of 1337 tricks I've found.
Q3A totally fucking sucks rancid sheep cock, the worst control and feel of any major FPS game.

Favourite games aside from Quake are Unreal for the graphics, atmosphere, exploration and maps, and Battlezone2 for the graphics, strategic combat, different gameplay goals and intuitive controls. UT, FAKK2, and Wheel of Time are all great too.

What do you think of Quake now?
Still awesome, it has qualities that will never fade away or be superceded.

Quake Purity Test score? link
82.6 % (what is this crap?? lots of DM questions which don't apply to me)

Anything else you want to add here?
I'd like to see QdQ and SDA branch into new games because Quake2 and Unreal at least have loads of running potential.
