Nathan Egan

General Information

You live in (city & country)?
IN AMERICA!

Your birthdate (or age)?
November 10th, 1988, aged 20 as of Oct 1st, 2009

Your occupation/job/studies?
Full-time student, part-time pizza bitch.

Your hobbies?
Speed running, expanding my geek cred with obscure, unique video games, playing my guitar (badly) and your mum.

Your email/icq/mirc/homepage?
doctor.lombriz@gmail.com

Your music taste?
I like 80's metal; the stuff classified as "heavy metal" or "death metal" these days is a bit thick for my blood. Metal-inspired punk (i.e. The Offspring), and some more mellower stuff. I'm on a serious Silversun Pickups kick lately.

Anything you want to add here (about yourself)?
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-no.

Quake-related Information

Your nickname (story behind it)?
Dr. Lombriz. Originally Dr. Worm, after the song by They Might Be Giants about a loser who's going to stick with it and persevere regardless. I'm still making the change to Dr. Lombriz, as entirely too many other people took the nickname Dr. Worm but no-one's seems to have gone Mexican. Lombriz, however, as I discovered thirty seconds ago, is feminine, which probably says things about my personal life. (technically it should be Dr. Gusano)

Your Quake config (key bindings, etc.)?
WASD for movement, Mouse1 to fire, Mouse2 for rockets, Mouse3 for grenades, E and C to swim up and down, G to record demos, B to restart the map, Z to rocket jump (although I usually just do it manually, go figure).

Size of Quake directory on your HD?
1.85 gig

Your computer (processor/videocard etc.)?
Radeon 2500 Series video card, AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67 Ghz processor, 2.5 gigs RAM

Quake settings (resolution, version etc.)?
I use JoeQuake-gl with all the settings set to "shiny." 1024 by 728 resolution

First contact to speedrunning (when, how etc.)?
It was my very first video, QdQwav. I forget exactly when or how, though... I've just totally spaced it. Maybe a friend showed me the site? Maybe I stumbled across it while bored? However it happened, I prefer it to be multiple choice.

First speedrunning demo?
That I saw? Probably whoever did the 0:26 for the Slipgate Complex for QdQwav. Ilkka? Not certain. Myself? A dazsp1 "Death's Cold Touch" 1:15 NR.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from yourself (the one(s) that you're most proud of)?
Probably my 1:09 dazsp1 NR. My first demo (my previous attempts are discontinuity) packaged with an ogre grenade jump. Not bad.

Favorite speedrunning demo(s) from others?
This one's tough. Peter's e1m3 EH is pretty popular. I also like the EH and NR for e3m5rmx by NahkahiiR and Rutger, respectively. And Tom Nguyen'd dazsp1 1:04 NR. VENGEANCE WILL BE MINE, TOM!

Favorite player (overall/runs/100%/marathon/coop)?
Peter Horvath. If Nolan is the founder of speedrunning, Peter's the crazy godfather who arrived in a technicolor dreamcoat, shocking everyone with what was possible (E4M3 NR 0:33? Cuh-RAZY!) before leaving sometime in 2005 on a motorcycle made of bees, never to be seen again. More recently, "Stubby" Stubgaard produces consistently awesome NH's, but Jozsef elicited what I only describe as a "bwuh?" with his contest-winning sm155_trinca ER and NH.

Favorite trick in a demo?
Anything which just looks impossible. The first thing that comes to mind is the e1m4 double fiend boost, but anything with a quadded rocket/grenade without protection also counts. Also, the E4M8 bit in qd100qlite. "Duration of Pentagram: 30 sec. Time from Pentagram to jump: 29.93 sec." Peter, shine on, you crazy diamond.

Favorite QdQ release?
QdQwav for the nostalgia value, but The Rabbit Run and Scourge Done Slick were more entertaining; in the latter's case, possibly from the amusing recams.

Favorite original Quake map?
When I was... well, I must have been at LEAST 8... E4M3 gave me the jibblies, because it was the level I KNEW had the sliding lava trap. Death traps give me the jibblies. More recently, I'd give a shout to E1M8 for the unique gravity.

Favorite custom map?
dazsp1, for being my first record.

Most annoying monster/map?
I hate spawns. Good god, they give me the jibblies. I haven't played nearly as many maps to give a good annoying map, but the damned vores at the end of e4m7rmx ended a lot of promising attempts.

Do you like Doom/Quake2/Q3A?
A lot, a lot!/A lot, a lot!/Never really had the chance to play it in it's prime, and now that TF2's out I probably never will. Oh well. As for Quake 4, it was good, but not as good as Quake 2.

What do you think of Quake now?
Between the custom maps and speedrunning, it's kept my interest alive and kicking.

Quake Purity Test score? link
87.9% Quake Pure (12.1% Quake Corrupt).

Anything else you want to add here?
Only 12.1% Quake Corrupt? No wonder my demos suck.
